The Board of Directors of Carbon Power and Light Inc. is seeking qualified candidates to replace the General Manager, who is retiring in June, 2025.
Profile
The General Manager reports to a nine-member Board of Directors. The Cooperative is a Member-Owned Rural Electric Utility, serving portions of Carbon and Albany Counties in south central Wyoming. The Cooperative has 25 Employees, approximately 2,030 miles of distribution and sub-transmission lines, providing service to 6,710 meters. In 2024 the Cooperative had annual operating revenues of $16,581,344, total operating expenses of $14,508,133 and a total net utility plant of $42,084,418.
Requirements
Candidates must have a minimum of ten (10) years utility experience, preferably within the Rural Electric Program. Five (5) years management experience and/or a bachelor’s degree in a related field are preferred. The Board will consider candidates with broad utility management experience including such areas as; finance, operations, planning, Member-Owner communications and Board relations. The successful candidate must have excellent people and communications skills, proven leadership ability and a strong commitment to the “Cooperative Principles”. While the Cooperative’s Board of Directors expects its next General Manager to primarily focus on internal business, there is recognition of the value of external affairs to the organization. Candidates with experience engaging with community organizations in a Cooperative service territory are desired. Applicant will be expected to live in the Saratoga area.

The Cooperative’s headquarters facility is located in Saratoga, Wyoming. The Cooperative is a Member-Owner of and purchases its wholesale power supply from Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association Inc. The Cooperative has outpost facilities in Rock River and Laramie, Wyoming. Saratoga is located along the Upper North Platte River, in south central Wyoming, 40 miles from Rawlins, Wyoming and 99 miles from Laramie, Wyoming. The surrounding scenic mountains abound with recreational activities such as, camping, hunting, boating, fishing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing and hiking. The unique and welcoming “Western” atmosphere found throughout the Cooperative’s service area offers a multitude of social and cultural activities.

Director of Member Services Position
Carbon Power & Light, Inc. will be accepting employment applications through May 15, 2025 for the position of Director of Member Services and Marketing. The Director is responsible for the overall operation of the Member Services Department. This includes sales, marketing, delivery, troubleshooting and repair of all Diversified Services, including electric heating systems and water heaters. This also includes developing media advertising, including social media. They are responsible for development and implementation of energy efficiency, marketing, safety and member communication programs. Also assists with building maintenance.

Marketing or communications degree or work experience equivalent is preferred. Applicant must be able to obtain a State of Wyoming LM-H HVAC Technician license. Electrical knowledge is a plus.
