Residential Energy Efficiency Products

 All Energy Efficiency Credits will be in the form of a credit applied to the Member-Owner’s account.

Electric Thermal Storage (ETS) and Thermal Slab Units

Incentive

• Controlled Off-Peak Heating o $16/kW, for ETS units controlled by timers or a master control system.

Heated Floors o $12/kW for thermal slab units controlled by timers or a master control system.

  • CP&L Incentive of $4/kW for electric thermal storage units, thermal slab units controlled by

timers and master control system.

General Information

• No other Tri-State Energy Efficiency Product or special rate/discount shall apply.

• Applies only to electric thermal storage heating installations that are purchased by, or leased to, the member-owner.

• Minimum qualifying load for ETS is 1 kW.

• ETS incentives apply to new and replacement installations.

 

Electric Water Heaters

Incentive

• Basic Unit - 30-55 gallon resistance water heaters o $30/unit.

o $20/unit additional rebate with lifetime tank warranty, 30 to 55 gallon only.

  • CP&L Rebate of $1.50 per gallon for Basic Unit, $3.00 per Gallon for Marathon Water Heater

• Heat Pump Water Heater (air to water and may have a back-up resistance element) – Residential units must be Energy Star® rated o $350/unit – 30 gallon minimum.

Ground source heat pump powered (a.k.a. de-superheater) o $100/unit.

General Information

• No other Tri-State energy efficiency credit or special rate/discount shall apply.

• Rebate applies to new or replacement units that are purchased by, or leased to, the member-owner.

• Heat Pump Waste Heat is defined as a water heating unit that utilizes direct exchange waste heat from a ground source or air source heat pump.

• No incentive will be paid for a unit serving as backup for another source such as solar water heating.

 

 

 

 

Energy Star® Appliances and Recycling

Incentive

• Full-size Energy Star® Certified Refrigerators and Freezers o $30/unit.

 

• Refrigerator and/or Freezer Recycling o $60 for recycling a refrigerator or freezer.

 

• Energy Star® Certified Clothes Washers o $40 per unit for front load washers.

o $30 per unit for top load washers.

• Energy Star® Clothes Dryer o $30 per unit for clothes dryer.

o $90 per unit for hybrid clothes dryer (vent-less).

 

• Energy Star® Certified Dishwashers o $20 per unit.

 

 

General Information

• No other Tri-State Energy Efficiency Product or special rate/discount shall apply.

• Applies only to equipment that is purchased by the member-owner or a state authorized Low Income Weatherization provider.

• Equipment manufactured under out of date Energy Star® specifications is still Energy Star® rated although it may not be on the latest list. If not on the list please note other confirmation of Energy Star® status.

• Energy Star® refrigerators and freezers must be 7.75 cubic feet or greater.

 

 

Residential LED Lamps

Incentive

• 50% of lamp or fixture cost.

• Capped at $8/lamp or fixture.

 

General Information

• Maximum of 50 lamps per account per year.

• Lamps or fixtures must have a minimum output of 500 lumens.

• Medium base (standard residential base), GU24 base, other residential oriented base or fixtures with built in LEDs that meet the above criteria qualify.

• LED fixtures with multiple light sources (for example, multiple LED tubes, rope-light, or under counter lighting) are considered to be one fixture.

• No other Tri-State Energy Efficiency Product or special rate/discount shall apply.

• Applies only to equipment that is purchased by the Member System, member-owner or a state authorized Low Income Weatherization Agency.

• Maximum purchase capped at 50 lamps/fixtures per year per account without prior Tri-State authorization.

 

 

Electric Heat Pump – Air Source

Incentive

• $300/ton for units rated from 15 to 17 SEER.

• $450/ton for units greater than 17 SEER.

• $100/unit additional incentive for central air source with integrated controlled ETS backup in lieu of a separate ETS incentive.

• $85/unit for terminal units (through-the-wall mounted heat pumps).

 

General Information

• Minimum of 15 SEER

• Minimum qualifying load for central, split and mini-split heat pump installation is 1 ton, and for terminal unit heat pumps is 12,000 BTU/hour rated capacity.

• Energy Star® rating not required.

• No other Tri-State Energy Efficiency Product or special rate/discount shall apply.

• Applies only to permanent heat pump installations that are purchased by, or leased to, the member-owner. Window units do not qualify.

• Heat pump incentives apply to new and replacement installations.

 

Electric Heat Pump – Ground Source

Incentive

• $500 per ton for ground source systems using either ground source closed loop or ground water source.

 

General Information

• Minimum qualifying load for ground source heat pump installations is 3/4 ton (9,000 Btuh).

• Energy Star® rating not required.

• Heat pump incentives apply to new and replacement installations.

• No other Tri-State Energy Efficiency Product or special rate/discount shall apply.

 

 

Energy Star® Rated Split System Air-Conditioners

Incentive

• $100/unit split system Energy Star® rated air conditioners from 15 to 16 SEER.

• $150/unit split system Energy Star® rated air conditioners over 16 SEER.

 

General Information

• No other Tri-State Energy Efficiency Product or special rate/discount shall apply.

• Applies only to permanent installations that are purchased by, or leased to, the member-owner. Window units do not qualify.

• Minimum qualifying equipment size is 1 ton.

• Energy Star® Rating – A complete list of qualified equipment is available at www.ceedirectory.org

o $25/unit additional incentive for lifetime tank warranty on heat pump waste heat units.

 

 

Low Income Weatherization

Incentive

• Tri-State will match up to $500 per household in Member System payments to their local Weatherization Agency for approved measures. “Round-up” and similar programs associated directly with the Member System qualify as matching funds.

 

General Information

• No other Tri-State Energy Efficiency Product or special rate/discount shall apply.

• Applies only to materials and labor provided by a state authorized local low income Weatherization Agency (WA) not covered by other Tri-State rebates, such as Energy Star® rated refrigerators or LED light bulbs.

• Multi-family housing may have a special case where only a portion of the units are occupied by low-income qualified participants. There are Federal guidelines which Tri-State will follow that indicate the percentage of low-income units that must qualify before all units may be retrofit under the program.

• Items covered under the Weatherization rebate. o Insulation for walls, attics, floors, pipes, and ducts.

o Storm windows and doors.

o Replacement windows and doors.

o Caulking, sealing, and weather-stripping.

o Water heater insulation and heat traps.

o Compact fluorescent light bulbs1.

 

• Member-owners must meet the income and other qualifications of the Federal Weatherization Assistance Program as implemented in their state and be participating in the program. They may own or rent their residences: single family homes, duplexes, and other rental locations where at least 66% of the units qualify under the low- income guidelines.

• Payments from the Member System are expected to be made to the local Weatherization Agency.
